“For all children who search for those who are missing – may the grief pass on through and emerge into healing.” – Virginia Lynn Fry
Helios Care’s Camp Forget-Me-Not, founded in 2002, is a free day-camp for school-age children who are experiencing the loss of a loved one. This summer, Camp Forget-Me-Not will be held at the Riverside Elementary School in Oneonta on Wednesday, August 7th. Rod Roberts, the first camp director and bereavement counselor at Helios Care, will be facilitating this camp. Registration is required to attend.
Camp Forget-Me-Not provides a safe and welcoming environment for children to express their feelings and emotions with support professionals and other children experiencing similar feelings. Throughout the day, kids will engage in group activities, join in four different healing circles, and have free time to play. Children are encouraged to express themselves and our counselors meet them with positive reinforcement.
All children in Otsego, Delaware and Schoharie are welcome to attend. You do not need to be a hospice family or a current patient of Helios Care to register your child. Parents are invited to attend the parent support group at 3:30pm, where you can share your concerns, connect with other parents and identify resources in your community. Parents can also attend the closing ceremony and family dinner to follow, beginning at 4:30pm.
Anyone seeking extra support for a child can request a Deluxe Coping Kit from Helios Care. These kits are free and include activities and resources for children who are experiencing the loss of a loved one.
Camp Forget-Me-Not will be held on August 7th, 9:30am-5:30pm, Riverside Elementary School, 39 House Street in Oneonta. If you wish to register a child for this camp or would like to order a coping kit, please call Rod Roberts at (607) 267-8111 or visit the Helios Care website.
