Special hospice care for veterans
Serving those who served us
By recognizing the distinct needs of veterans who are facing a life-limiting illness, more than a thousand hospice and palliative care providers across the nation have joined forces with their local VA healthcare providers in the We Honor Veterans initiative. At Helios Care, we have trained our staff and volunteers to address the unique needs of veterans, always in an appreciative and dignified manner. Loved ones of veterans also benefit from this wonderful service. They are able to be better caregivers and enjoy quality time together.
“It is a true privilege for our organization to be a part of the We Honor Veterans initiative. The natural bond shared by our volunteers and patients who have served in the military is beyond words.”
Time for recognition and reflection
When a veteran is admitted for Helios Hospice Care, a team member asks them if they would like to participate in a ceremony in appreciation and recognition for their sacrifice and service. For many, this is the first time they have been thanked for their military service. The ceremony takes place wherever the veteran is. It is a very touching and moving experience for them with an extra special meaning for their families, brightening their lives with a sense of pride and gratitude. Hospice volunteers who are veterans themselves often perform these presentations offering a special pin and personalized Certificate of Appreciation. Our veteran volunteers often stay after the ceremony to share stories and enjoy the deep bond that veterans have with one another.
